According to Anthropic, Claude 3.5 Sonnet operates at twice the speed of Opus, making it ideal for complex, context-sensitive tasks such as customer support and multi-step workflow automation. This performance leap comes at a significantly lower cost for developers—one-fifth the price of Opus—making advanced AI more accessible for a wide range of applications. The model excels in graduate-level reasoning, undergraduate-level knowledge, and coding proficiency, demonstrating marked improvements in understanding nuance, humor, and complex instructions.
Perhaps the most significant innovation accompanying the model is a new user experience feature called “Artifacts.” When a user asks Claude to generate content like code snippets, text documents, or SVG graphics, these creations now appear in a dedicated window next to the conversation. This transforms the AI from a simple conversational tool into an interactive workspace where users can see, edit, and iterate on AI-generated content in real-time, seamlessly integrating it into their projects.
This strategic release positions Anthropic to compete more aggressively with rivals like OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Google’s Gemini.
