Foxconn Taps Nvidia to Build ‘AI Factories,’ Expanding from Manufacturing to AI Infrastructure

Electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn, best known as the primary assembler of Apple’s iPhone, is making a significant move into the booming artificial intelligence sector. The company, officially known as Hon Hai Technology Group, has announced a strategic partnership with Nvidia to build a global network of advanced “AI factories.”

The announcement, made during Foxconn’s annual Tech Day, details a collaboration that will leverage Nvidia’s full-stack AI platform to create next-generation data centers. These facilities are designed specifically for the intensive computational demands of training and running large-scale AI models. The partnership will see Foxconn integrate Nvidia’s cutting-edge hardware, including its H100 and B200 Tensor Core GPUs, high-speed networking, and the Nvidia AI Enterprise software suite.

This venture marks a strategic pivot for Foxconn, moving the company up the value chain from contract manufacturing to providing critical AI infrastructure. Foxconn plans to not only build these AI factories for its own internal use—enhancing its smart manufacturing and electric vehicle initiatives—but also to offer them as a service to its diverse range of customers. By doing so, Foxconn aims to become a key solutions provider in the AI era, diversifying its revenue streams beyond consumer electronics assembly.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who joined Foxconn Chairman Young Liu for the announcement, emphasized that this collaboration will enable companies to build their own AI capabilities more efficiently. The partnership will focus on several key applications, including AI-powered factory automation, autonomous vehicle development, and platforms for training large language models. This move signals a powerful convergence of manufacturing prowess and AI leadership, aiming to accelerate the adoption of generative AI across industries by building the foundational infrastructure required for its growth.
