The European Commission has officially launched the AI Office, a new centralized body tasked with overseeing the implementation and enforcement of the landmark EU AI Act. Headquartered in Brussels, the office marks a critical transition from legislative theory to practical enforcement, establishing the world’s first dedicated regulatory authority for artificial intelligence.
The AI Office will play a pivotal role in ensuring that AI systems deployed within the European Union are safe, transparent, and respect fundamental rights. For major tech companies, the AI Office represents a new, powerful regulator capable of investigating potential breaches and recommending substantial fines—up to 7% of a company’s global annual turnover.
